Broadway’s NEWSIES is Coming to the Big Screen

Disney's Newsies

I love theatre shows.  There is just something about watching the actors and actresses on stage that really evoke emotions out of me.  One of my favorites is Disney’s NEWSIES.  It was such an amazing production!  That is why I am so excited that straight from the Broadway stage, Fathom Events and Disney Theatrical Productions are bringing the Tony Award®-winning musical  to cinemas nationwide in an exclusive three-day event on February 16, 18 and 22.  Since opening on Broadway in 2011, NEWSIES has played 1,711 performances between Broadway and North American tour, to more than 2.5 million audience members in 65 cities across the country. NEWSIES, the new American musical, features a Tony Award-winning score with music by eight-time Academy Award® winner Alan Menken and lyrics by Jack Feldman, a book by four time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein and is produced by Disney Theatrical Productions, NEWSIES is directed by Tony nominee Jeff Calhoun and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli, who won a 2012 Tony Award for his work on the show. The entire creative team has reunited to bring the break-out smash musical to audiences across North America.

Filmed live on stage at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood, CA, this not-to-be-missed high energy show stars Original Broadway cast members Jeremy Jordan as “Jack Kelly,” Kara Lindsay as “Katherine,” Ben Fankhauser as “Davey” and Andrew Keenan-Bolger as “Crutchie”. They’re joined by North American Tour stars Steve Blanchard as “Joseph Pulitzer,” and Aisha de Haas as “Medda Larkin,” and Ethan Steiner as “Les” along with members of both the Broadway and North American Tour ensembles, filling the stage with more “newsies” and more dancing than ever before.

Set in New York City at the turn of the century and based on a true story, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teenaged ‘newsies,’ who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But when publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies newsies from across the city to strike and take a stand for what’s right.

I have got a pair of tickets to giveaway!  Winner can pick between the following dates to the theater of their choice.  If you want to win, just leave a comment and we will select a winner.  Winner will be notified by email on February 12.

Love NEWSIES! My cousin played Romeo during the national tour! Would love to see him and the cast on the big screen! 🙂 We are so proud of him!

This looks like a fun and interesting show and I just love a great musical! Looked it up and they will be showing it here near me! So excited 🙂

I’m such a musical geek – love them all. Haven’t heard of this one but recently saw Aladdin which was great – and of course I love all the classics, Chicago, Wicked, Cats, Phantom of the Opera!

This looks great but I am in a different country, so watching this will not be possible. But I have seen similar stage shows in the past and enjoyed them.

  5. Elizabeth O. says:

I like watching plays and musicals, they’re always so refreshing because we’re always flooded with movies that have tons of CGI. You can’t compare that to the quality of a live play or musical, ever.
