Experience Festival of the SEAson at Georgia Aquarium

I LOVE living near a big city such as Atlanta, Georgia.  There is always something to do.  It is even more appealing during the holiday season because there is so much for families to enjoy.  One of our favorite places to visit is the Georgia Aquarium, and they really know how to captivate audiences with their seasonal shows and animals.  As I have said before, I LOVE the ocean and all those beautiful creatures that call that place home.  I wish that I could take some underwater trips just to see them in action.

Since I can’t go underwater during the holiday season, what better place to go than the Georgia Aquarium.  They have truly pulled out all the best this season for their visitors.  Beginning with the Holidazzle lights and music spectacular.  This was one of the first things I noticed when we entered.  It truly sets the stage for the experience.  I just loved that everywhere I looked, I felt like I was in a holiday show.  Classics playing over the speakers and a light show that needs to be seen in person! The best part was that I was not fighting to see it either!  All I had to do was look up, and there it was.

The fun does not stop at lights and music.  Throughout the aquarium you will find opportunities to enjoy the holiday season.  Beginning with Scuba Santa in the world’s largest habitat, Ocean Voyager.   Wearing a special Santa wet suit, you can check out the jolly old man completing dive shows and entertaining guests.

If you are looking to snap that annual picture with Santa Claus, no need to worry.  The aquarium does offer guests the option of getting a traditional picture done with their very own seaside St. Nick.  Pictures are done (minus the wet suit) in the Atrium.

Be sure to catch A Symphony of Snow just outside Santa’s area.  This live show is a delight for all as you watch the show unfold from the start of the arrival of a large gift to Santa’s classic arrival on his sleigh.  See what magic happens when the dancing and singing entertains guests.  You will want to sing and dance along as the entertainers perform your favorite classics. And yes, snow falls.

Now that schools are beginning to let out for the holiday season, there is plenty of time for you to take your family to the Georgia Aquarium to enjoy Festival of the SEAson.  Plus, this is a great gift to give someone.  I learned a few years ago that giving the gift of experiences is well worth the money.  Material things do not last a lifetime, but memories do.  Buy a season pass or give the experience to your friends and family.

Here’s a sampling of what you or your recipient can expect this holiday season:

Daily tree lighting and caroling each morning at 10:30 am in the Atrium

The Waddle Walk featuring African penguins at 10:45.

Live Entertainment with A Symphony of Snow at noon and 3.

And so much more!

If you go, do not miss the sea lions!  This is one of my favorite new attractions at the Georgia Aquarium. At Pier 225, visitors will be transported to the coast of California for an up close and entertaining intimate look at the captivating California sea lions. Listed on the U.S. Endangered Species Act as “threatened” and under the Marine Mammal Protection Act as “depleted,” the Georgia Aquarium has rescued pups from the sad phenomenon that was taking place on the beaches of California. Back in March of 2015, there was an “unusually high number of sea lions pups were stranded on California beaches during an Unusual Mortality Event (UME).” The Georgia Aquarium has welcomed two of those pups, Jupiter and Neptune, and they are entertaining and educating guests.  Do you know what the difference is between a sea-lion and a seal?  Check out their show to find out!

The Georgia Aquarium has also created an all new dolphin show.   Guests will be treated to an in-depth look into the behaviors of the bottlenose dolphin and the relationship they have with their trainers.  This new presentation is both entertaining and educational.  Plus, they now have a new SOAK ZONE!  I know in the past when people say SOAK ZONE, people typically get sprinkled with water if they are lucky!  That is not the case here! When they say SOAKED, you better be prepared!  Of course, not everyone in the SOAK ZONE gets soaked, but there many that do!

The Georgia Aquarium is the perfect place for families to escape during the holiday break from school.  Go and create new memories with the ones you love and a couple thousand varieties of marine life.  You will not regret it!
