Have a Holly Jolly Christmas at Holiday in the Park

d

Georgia is home to so many wonderful places to visit and experience Christmas this holiday season!  We have got thrill seekers covered to those that want an old-fashioned Christmas.  Georgia can treat you to a Peachy Christmas!

One of Atlanta’s favorite places to have fun, Six Flags,  is now letting people enjoy the park even longer as a family this holiday season.  The park has been transformed into a winter wonderland with millions of twinkling lights.  If you are seeking a fun-filled holiday themed attraction, you gotta visit Six Flags over Georgia’s Holiday in the Park!  As a parent of children from ages 1 to 18,  this is a place where everyone can be entertained.  From the children’s rides to the thrill enthusiast rides, this place has got something for everyone.

We recently experienced Six Flags Holiday in the Park, and I can honestly tell you it put us right into the spirit of Christmas! Sometimes you just need a little something to set the tone for the season, and this place did it for us.  As we walked through admiring all the twinkling lights, delicious smells, and sounds of the season, we couldn’t help but get our hearts right for Christmas.  The holiday season just seems to fill the atmosphere here.

Six Flags has thought of everything to keep your family happy from the Peeps Snowman Hot Chocolate to the fires nestled throughout the park to keep your bodies warm and toasty, you will have a great time!

Check out some of our favorites below!

SMORES Fire Pits

Worried about the temperatures this holiday season?  Don’t be!  You have got plenty of stations to warm up.  Plus you can roast marshmallows.  They have got all you need to enjoy this fun-filled pastime with your family.

img_6716

Holiday City

One of our “must visit” every time we come to the park is GOTHAM City.  This holiday season you will not want to miss experiencing the spectacular green and purple lights on a 25 foot Christmas tree with 200 brightly lit Batman candles.  This tree is something you gotta see in person!  Plus, you can sit back and watch those daring enough to ride The Joker (like my older children are) or sit back on BATMAN: The Ride for an adventure.   This area is beautiful!

img_6726

GloHill

A visit to Six Flags would not be complete without heading down to Holiday City to visit Batman and his friends.  We love walking through GloHill to experience the glowing light sticks.  These lights are spectacular!

img_6708

Candlelight Carousel

For many years my family has made a point of “giddying up” and riding the carousel at Six Flags.  The Riverview Carousel, originally built-in 1908,  becomes the Candlelight Carousel this holiday season.  This carousel features 60 hand-carved horses and several stunning chariots carved with cherubs.  All lit up with old fashioned carnival lights and music, you will be transported to another era.

Magic of the Season

Peppermint Plaza is host to an amazing state-of-the-art light show.  Stroll through a tunnel of holiday wonder as you listen to the sounds of Christmas.

Mistletoe Mansion

One of our favorites areas is Mistletoe Mansion.  Many of you may recall Monster Mansion, one of our park’s beloved and enchanting attractions.  It has undergone a mistletoe rehab!  The picture above does not do it justice by any means!  It features dozens of mistletoe strung across the midway, more than 100,000 lights and chandeliers outside the famous Monster Mansion attraction for the most beautiful outdoor holiday ball of all in Georgia  It is truly a sight to be seen.  Do not forget to sneak your kiss under the mistletoe!

img_0774

Crystal Palace Because It’s Christmas Holiday Show

One of the things I enjoy the most about Six Flags is that they offer guests shows.  It is not just about riding rides at this theme park.  They truly want to immerse you into the season by bringing you entertaining shows that are sure to delight audiences.  This holiday they have a special show called Because It’s Christmas. Now I do not want to give away the show because it is truly something you will want to see.  What I can tell you is that you will see Jack Frost, Rudolph, Santa and his elves, and one sweet family.

Dazzling Holiday Light Spectacular by Christmas Decor returns to illuminate the holidays at Atlanta Motor Speedway

vcsprasset_2464767_96625_97064406-1235-46bb-87ca-aa859218aab3_0

In just over a week, Atlanta Motor Speedway will transform into a brilliant winter wonderland, as the Holiday Light Spectacular by Christmas Décor opens its doors to one of the largest drive-through holiday light exhibits in metro Atlanta.

Set to kick off Friday, Nov. 25 and run through Friday, Dec. 30, the Holiday Light Spectacular brings the holiday spirit alive with millions of colorful lights and an enhanced yuletide experience for families and holiday revelers of all ages. Flying reindeer, dancing light tunnels and dozens of moving displays are just the start to the dazzling two-mile drive-through journey that headlines the more than month-long holiday attraction at the historic NASCAR speedway.

Santa’s Village, located on the AMS infield, will be open each Friday through Sunday during the Holiday Light Spectacular and daily from Dec. 16 through the 30th. There, kids can meet Mr. Claus himself and have a keepsake photo or video made with him. Also inside Santa’s Village, visitors can squeeze in some holiday shopping with a great variety of locally owned businesses ready to help cross items off your list. A free s’mores station, face painting, arts and crafts and letters to Santa are also available in the unique and festive atmosphere.

If the brilliant lights and Santa’s Village weren’t enough, visitors to the Holiday Light Spectacular can kick their evening up a notch at the carnival, presented by Forever Young Amusements. Open the same nights as Santa’s Village, the carnival will feature popular rides and prize-winning games. Individual rides are just $3, while unlimited ride wristbands are available for $20. Carnival snacks and hot cocoa and cider will be available at the carnival to satisfy cravings of all varieties.

Special holiday-themed drive-in movie nights will help everyone from the young to the young at heart get into the spirit of the season on select evenings. On Dec. 10, Christmastime favorite, Dr. Seuss’ “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” will be shown, while “Frozen” will warm the hearts of all as it lights up the big screen on Dec. 17. The movies will run continuously on the designated nights, and there is no extra charge to watch.

On Dec. 3, runners, joggers and walkers will replace cars in the Run Through the Lights 5K. Open to all ages, the light show will open its gates for a Christmas-themed race in which all participants will receive a t-shirt, a digital photo with Santa and a free cup of hot cocoa. Prizes will be handed out to the first through third-place male and female finishers in each age division. Following the race, the light show will reopen to vehicles.

Other promotional nights at the Holiday Light Spectacular include the ribbon-cutting grand opening on Friday, Nov. 25 when Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta will be giving away free Santa hats to the first 500 vehicles, Double Drive-Thru days every Monday, offering each vehicle two trips through the light show for the price of one, the Great Clips Ornament Giveaway on Friday, Dec. 9 for the first 500 vehicles, Public Safety and Military Appreciation Night with a $5 discount with a valid ID on Saturday, Nov. 26, School Spirit Sundays, Cookies for a Cause benefiting local children in need and much more.

The Holiday Light Spectacular will be open every day from Friday, Nov. 25 through Friday, Dec. 30, with the exception of Christmas Day, when all features will be closed for the holiday. Show hours are 6-9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 6-10 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. The show will then be open 6-10 p.m. each day from Dec. 19 through its final day on Dec. 30.

Prices are $15 per vehicle carrying up to six passengers Monday through Thursday and $20 per vehicle Friday through Sunday between Nov. 25 and Dec. 15. Vehicles are $20 every day between Dec. 16 and Dec. 30. Commercial vehicles with 6-10 passengers are $30 and $1 for each passenger over 10. Tickets may be purchased at the light show entrance, near the speedway’s Gate 15, and accepted methods of payment include cash, debit card and credit card. Maximum vehicle height is 11 feet.

Christmas Love Letters

 untitled
Thanksgiving is here!  We truly hope that your day has been full of blessings with family and friends.  There is nothing quite like the love we share with one another especially at the holidays. But honestly, that love does not compare to the love that God poured out on us when He sent His Son here to Earth to live among us.
As we prepare our hearts for the season ahead, I believe it is important to set our hearts off in the right direction.  It is so easy to caught up in the Black Friday  and/or Cyber Monday shopping.  Not that those things are not important…I am all for saving money and getting the best deals!  What if we change our focus this season to showing God’s love to one another.  Offer up your place in line at the store to someone.  Buy someone’s lunch in line.  Purchase someone a coffee.
We can take this beautiful yet chaotic holiday season and turn it in to a kindness movement.
That is what God did for us when He chose Mary to be the mother of a precious gift from Heaven!

This Christmas, why don’t you set the tone for the season by sharing the story of Jesus’ birth with the little ones you hold dear to your heart.  CHRISTMAS LOVE LETTERS from God, written by Glenys Nellist, is a beautiful book for children ages four to eight.  Christmas Love Letters from God cleverly combines both prose and poetry as the story of Jesus’ birth unfolds. The book includes seven stories, beginning with Isaiah’s prophecy and ending with the visit of the wise men. Following each story, the child will find his or her own letter from God, folded into a small envelope attached to the page. Each letter begins with a space in which to write the child’s name, so each one can be specially addressed to the child.

Written as if God is speaking, each personalized message gives the young reader a sense of wonder as they discover anew the Christmas holiday and the birth of Jesus. A very special Bible verse, entitled God’s Perfect Promise, also accompanies each story and letter as God’s personal words of love, promise, and hope.

My family has a beautiful tradition of sharing the story of Jesus’ birth each year.  It is by far the one thing that I LOVE  and LOOK forward to year after year.  We are getting to a place now where they can say what happened all on their own.  That brings such sweet smiles to our faces.  We also welcomed a brand new bundle of joy to our home over a year ago.  Although he may be too little to know the real meaning of Christmas, we have decided that we would use this book and dedicate it to him.  We will fill in his name on the letters so that in the near future, he will get to experience the love of this story just like his other brothers and cousins.  What is even more special is this year we are going to have my father read it to him this Thanksgiving.  We feel that this will help set the tone for our holiday season.  We want to remember the season and extend that love to others that we encounter this season.

Do you want to purchase this precious book for someone?  This would make for a great gift, and one that has a beautiful message behind it.  You can purchase it right here on these websites:

Serenbe Playhouse Announces Season 8 A SEASON OF REBELLION

17_seasoneight_1200x1200_socialmedia_v1

Seriously, if you are looking for a unique gift to give this holiday season to someone that has it all, then consider giving them the gift of experiences!  My family lives close to the beautiful little place called Serenbe.  It is nestled in Chattahoochee Hills and is a world away from the hustle and bustle of the big city.  It is a beautiful place that  has one Atlanta’s most prized possessions in my opinion, Serenbe Playhouse.  If you have not seen a play here, well-you are MISSING something BIG!

Serenbe Playhouse is a professional theatre committed to producing site-specific performances and programs that connect art, nature and community. Serenbe Playhouse believes that theatre as an art form has the unique power to illuminate the human experience. In pursuit of that vision, we produce artistically rich site-specific performances and programming that reduce the barriers between artists and audiences by immersing patrons in an environment that amplifies the beauty of nature, and provides opportunities for engagement, conversation, and collaboration.  We use theatre as an artistic educational tool for both artists and audiences. We are a pioneer in modeling Green Theatre Practices by producing plays with a commitment to social responsibility and environmental stewardship. Serenbe Playhouse was founded in 2009 under the executive and artistic direction of Brian Clowdus, an accomplished actor, educator, director and producer. Established under the umbrella of their parent organization, The Serenbe Institute for Art Culture & the Environment, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, Serenbe Playhouse operates with the support of a diverse working board of directors and community volunteers.

Serenbe Playhouse, recipient of the prestigious American Theatre Wing grant (2015), and having recently produced the most Suzi Bass Award-decorated show of the 2015-16 season, Miss Saigon, is excited to announce Season 8: A Season of Rebellion. The season includes a spring production of Grease, by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey; and in the summer, a new adaptation of Robin Hood, by Rachel Teagle; Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, and musical theatre favorite, Cabaret, by Joe Masteroff and John Kander and Fred Ebb. A reimagined Sleepy Hollow, adapted by Brian Clowdus, and perennial favorite, The Snow Queen, an adaptation by Rachel Teagle, will round out the calendar year.  Season tickets and single tickets will be on sale soon online at www.serenbeplayhouse.com (any time); and by phone at 770-463-1110 (Monday—Saturday, noon until 6pm). The Playhouse administrative offices are located at 9110 Selborne Lane, #210, Chattahoochee Hills GA, 30268.

ABOUT SEASON 8: A SEASON OF REBELLION

The company’s spring show, Grease, will be staged as a vintage drive-in with a fresh, sexy, modern vibe. Summer days bring the family show, Robin Hood, in which the Playhouse will take to the air and lead patrons in an immersive zip-line experience as our hero robs from the rich and gives to the poor. In the summer evenings, the company will embrace the most ruthless rebel of all, Macbeth, staged within rocks and water deep in the Serenbe woods, reminiscent of the landscape of Scotland. And Serenbe Playhouse’s summer musical, fresh off the Broadway revival and tour, will take patrons to the seedy underground “Kit Kat Club” where Brian Clowdus will step into the role of the Emcee in Cabaret. The company will again present fall and winter favorites, The Sleepy Hollow Experience, with a fresh script adaptation by Clowdus; and The Snow Queen to ring in the holidays next year.

“This has been an incredible, record-breaking season, and in thinking of how we could top it, I realized we just couldn’t—so, instead we will REBEL!” says Founder and Executive Artistic Director, Brian Clowdus. “We’ve picked titles and environments that embrace the energy and essence of Rebellion! This is a season near and dear to my rebellious heart, and one that promises a variety of laughs, tears, and gasps fit for everyone from a Pink Lady to Sally Bowles.  It will be our boldest season yet… it’s time to REBEL!”

Myles Moore returns, alternating the role of the iconic Ralphie Parker with Austin Molinaro. Moore’s portrayal of Ralphie has been hailed by The Arizona Republic as “brilliant… he is a strong presence on stage with commanding vocal talent.” Susannah Jones reprises her role as Mother. The Oklahoman claimed “It was Susannah Jones, capturing the quiet strength and vulnerability of The Mother, who gave the musical its beating heart.” Christopher Swan returns as The Old Man, in a performance the San Francisco Chronicle praised as “marvelous… part Jackie Gleason, part Paul Lynde.” Chris Carsten once again joins the cast as radio personality and narrator Jean Shepherd, a role for which he was praised by The Oklahoman as “excellent” and “outstanding.”

Joining the veteran cast of A Christmas Story, The Musical, Arick Brooks will take on the role of little brother Randy, with Angelica Richie as Miss Shields. The cast also includes Andrew Berlin, Matthew Brennan, Sydney Chan, Jessica Crilley, Josh Davis, Elizabeth Flanagan, Briana Gantsweg, K’Lynn Jackman, Allie Kiesel, Kevin Kulp, Joey Little, Allison Maldonado, Lucas Marinetto, Brooke Martino, Evan Mayer, Mark Megill, Wyatt Oswald, Sofia Pargas, Kyle Patrick Scanlon and Joshua Turchin. The hounds will play themselves.

A Christmas Story, The Musical chronicles young and bespectacled Ralphie Parker as he schemes his way toward the holiday gift of his dreams, an official Red Ryder® Carbine-Action 200-Shot Range Model Air Rifle (“You’ll shoot your eye out kid!”). An infamous leg lamp, outrageous pink bunny pajamas, a maniacal department store Santa, and a triple-dog-dare to lick a freezing flagpole are just a few of the distractions that stand between Ralphie and his Christmas wish. Chock-full of delightful songs and splashy production numbers, A Christmas Story, The Musical, has proudly taken its place as a perennial holiday classic for the whole family.

Hailed by The Associated Press as “a joyous Christmas miracle,” The New York Times writes “I was dazzled. You’d have to have a Grinch-sized heart not to feel a smile spreading across your face.” A Christmas Story, The Musical premiered on Broadway in 2012 and was a critical and commercial success. The musical was nominated for three TONY Awards® including Best New Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Book of a Musical.
