Challenger Sports – British Soccer Camps

British Soccer Camp is the most popular camp in North America – 150,000 campers! With an innovative curriculum that develops skills, speed and confidence in players ages 3-18, British Soccer Camps provide boys and girls with the rare opportunity to receive high-level soccer coaching from a team of international expert’s right in the heart of their own community. In addition to teaching new skills and improving game performance, each British Soccer Camp provides lessons in character development, cultural education and is the most fun your child can have learning the sport they love!

My son had the opportunity to particiapte in this last year and he had a great time, and this year my nephew particpated!  For one week kids aged 4 to 12 participated in a unique camp experience with authentic coaches from Liverpool and England.  Not to say that American coaches are not authentic because many of them are.  Being that this was a British Soccer Camp, I was hoping that he would get to experience some coaches from that area and I was pleasantly surprised that were indeed from across the ocean.

Their experienced staff have study the game at all levels and have identified the key techniques and skills that players need to work on and master to reach their true potential. Each day included individual foot skills, technical drills, tactical practices, small-sided games, coached scrimmages, and a daily World Cup tournament.

In addition to helping develop your child’s core soccer skills and understanding of the game, Challenger’s camp philosophy encourages children to: become independent learners; to develop socially; and to better understand the meaning of respect, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship and leadership. Their innovative curriculum will engage, educate and entertain your child and will make this one of their most treasured soccer memories.

Some of the things I found heartwarming from this camp was that aside from the drills and character building they offered, they were living those character traits out right in front of their campers.  Noe of the campers were left out from the fun.  I really appreciated how the coach made sure that EVERYONE felt appreciated.

On the last day of the camp the players. parents, and coaches had alot of fun!  From the donuts and cookie cakes that were brought in to the World Cup finals, this camp was FUN for all!

The coaches even took time to recognize each player, giving them awards and accolades.  They even provide their players with a “report card” per say of what you did well and what you could continue to work on.

The week ended with a fun water gun fight and the coaches were in on the fun as well!

Overall I really felt like this camp is really worthwhile for the soccer player.  Joseph had a blast getting to know the players and coaches as well as getting to know a little but more about himself as a soccer player.  I strongly urge you to find out if there are some in your area.  They travel all across the United States offering a variety of camps.

Challenger’s British Soccer and TetraBrazil summer camp programs include a free ball, t-shirt, poster, on-line learning subscription.

Turning Your Trash Into Treasure

fairy house

Schools out for summer! The question is “What to do?”  There is a great place in downtown Atlanta that you can visit to escape the Georgia heat and learn a  thing or two.  Right now the Georgia Aquarium is hosting  a very cool traveling exhibit called Washed Ashore.  Washed Ashore: Art to Save the Sea features 13 sculptures of animal life constructed entirely from marine debris. The larger-than-life pieces will be on display throughout Georgia Aquarium through September 25, 2016 and are included in general admission. Each piece includes educational facts about the art and tips on how to help reduce the marine debris that is threatening the health of our oceans.

To celebrate and bring awareness to this problem, my family decided to take on a challenge and create a treasure from our garbage.  Using a plastic coffee can, Popsicle sticks, and an old funnel, we constructed our very own fairy house.

Why a DIY fairy house?  I am a big scifi nerd, and my go to genre for books and movies is anything that has to do with magical worlds.  After all, one of my favorite authors is C.S. Lewis.  So, when I was given the opportunity to help spread the news about protecting our oceans and the task of creating something out of trash, I knew my chance had finally come!  Now I could finally make that fairy house for a reason!  Of course, I could have made it all along, but doing something to help with a cause you believe in makes even more sweeter!

Scientists project that by the year 2050 our oceans will contain more pieces of plastic than fish!  I do not know about you, but that is heartbreaking!

We want to help support our oceans anyway we can especially if it means I get to make more fairy houses and accessories!  Actually, my fmaily has made a promise to look for ways we can recycle items in our everyday trash.   We want to help!  If everyone pitches in and does their part, we can save our oceans and all those that call it home!

Now it’s your turn to show us how your family can transform trash into treasure!  We will select one winner to win a family four pack of general admission tickets to the Georgia Aquarium where you can check out the Washed Ashore traveling exhibit.

Winner will be selected by email July 7.

Here’s how to enter:

  1. Use at least three items that would otherwise end up in the trash to create your masterpiece.
  2. Post a photo of the final product to our Facebook page (Living the Life as a Mom and Teacher) .
  3. Tag the us and the Georgia Aquarium.
  4. Use #TrashtoTreasure and #SavetheSea hashtags
  5. Let us know that you and your family are going to do your part reduce ocean debris.

Thermacell Patio Shield and Insect Repellent

My family enjoys being together outdoors.  Between the parties we have with family and friends to the camping trips we take, we are ALWAYS outside.  Unfortunately, I am a magnet for bugs.  It seems they want my blood more than my body does.  I do not care how much  bug spray I spray on myself, they find a tiny patch unprotected and attack!  It is a miserable thing to be desired so much–well, by bugs that is!  SO when we were given the opportunity to check out the Thermacell Patio Shield for bug protection, I knew I had to check it out.
Our Review
Overall, we would give this lantern a 10!  It was easy to assemble, and went to work almost immediately.  For someone that knows firsthand what it is like to be eaten alive by bugs, I was pleasantly surprised that I had no issues.  I was able to stay outdoors with my family for the duration of our party–which is something to boast about!  It really did provide the protection it promotes as covering.  With four adults outside enjoying the summer pool and weather, we were all able to experience the benefits.
I would defiantly recommend this to friends and family.  If you have a backyard and enjoy being outdoors, this a great product to have.  I esp love that it doubles not only as a bug repellent, but also as a lantern.   Good Housekeeping recommends it as one of 8 insect repellents that work!  Now that speaks volumes to me.
Want to enjoy the outdoors with your family uninterrupted? Thermacell Trailblazer and Scout Camp Lanterns provide hours of bright light and proven protection from mosquitoes, black flies, and other biting insects.

Thermacell products are effective in warding off biting insects. The repellent creates a 15 x 15-foot zone of protection against mosquitoes, black flies and other flying insects.

Thermacell products have been recognized by leading entomologists and outdoor writers as the solution to making outdoor activities enjoyable.
