I am fortunate enough to be able to review many cool things as a blogger. From hotels to restaurants, my calendar stays pretty busy. One of the things I enjoy the most is the opportunity to check out new cars. I love being able to experience them as a blogger because I get to view them from different perspectives! From looking at it through the lens of a parent to just an individual, there is a lot to consider about your next automobile purchase and having a true reflection from a regular person is important!
Recently I had the opportunity to check out one of the coolest vehicles, the Mazda 6 Grand Touring. What an amazing ride! As a current owner of an older model Mazda 6 GT, I was able to see how far they have come and I can honestly tell you I walked away even more impressed!
As you can see, this is one sleek looking vehicle. It is equipped with the Mazda SKYACTIV, a series of technologies developed by Mazda that increase fuel efficiency and engine output. One of the things we noticed immediately was the gas mileage in this car: 32 MPG- 28 City 40 Highway! Incredible!
The Mazda 6 also has this cool feature called the i-ELOOP which stands for “Intelligent Energy Loop.” So what is that exactly? Good question! Basically it has to do with your alternator. The alternator in your car uses up energy from the engine to operate. This will, in turn, consume more fuel. With the i-ELOOP the alternator is free-wheeling. This means that there is no drag on the on the engine which means that you can save on fuel.
There are a lot of great safety features in the Mazda 6 as well. With 3 cameras located behind the rearview mirror, the Mazda 6 has your back. Beginning with the backup camera, this allows you to see clearly what is behind you. The side mirrors also alert you to cars around you so avoid merging into them. The LDW (Lane Departure Warning system) also helps keep you safe as it alerts you when you are swerving into the next lane to help you avoid an accident.
The center console is very nice in the Mazda 6 as well. The knob type joy stick allows you to control the touchscreen.
The Mazda 6 Navigation system and HUD are a great asset to this vehicle.
The Mazda 6 is equipped with a with TomTom- based navigation system (noted in the TOP portion of the photo below). Overall we were pleased with the navigation system and its display. The only negative we had is that you can’t use it when the car is in drive. In order to set it, you must be in park. Honestly, while I may find that a negative, truthfully it is a great thing! When you are driving you should not be concerned with any type of visual displays such as phones or screens in your car. That is why I love the HUD in the Mazda 6!
The HUD (Heads-Up Display) or Active Driving Display (noted in the BOTTOM portion of the picture below) is located above the dash of the driver. It is a reflective screen that can be moved to adjust to the driver’s height. The screen provides the driver with a digital view of the car’s current speed. The numbers are easy to read and do not interfere at all with the driver’s view of the road. This allows you to focus on driving and not worrying about looking at your dash to determine your speed!
Another cool feature of this car is the headlights. Having reviewed the Mazda CX-5 earlier this year, this is one feature that I love since we live in the rolling hills right outside of Atlanta. The lights in the vehicle turn with you as you turn through corners and curves allowing you to visually see what lies before you. This is such a great feature to have especially when you live where we do. It helps aid in spotting lurking animals, and it helps you see the winding roads ahead of you.
Overall, the Mazda 6 Grand Touring is a great sporty vehicle that drives extremely well. It has strong performance and great fuel economy! If you are looking for a sporty vehicle that has some zoom-zoom, you gotta check out the Mazda 6 GT! It is a great value for the money!
