Flashback to the 2016 Mazda CX-5

car review

I am thrilled to spotlight an impressive compact crossover, the Mazda CX-5.   As a Mazda 6 owner, we are very familiar with Mazda and this vehicle did not disappoint!

My family had the opportunity to test drive this sophisticated and sleek Mazda CX-5.  After researching the car prior to its arrival, we were beyond excited to check out this car in person.  As the driver of this vehicle for the week, which made others quite jealous, I was well pleased.

The CX-5 is the 5 passenger crossover that seats 5 adults comfortably, leaving plenty of room for everyone. With four doors and a rear hatch, the Mazda CX-5 has plenty interior room.  The leather seats were quite comfortable and drivers have a variety of options with seating.  The front seats are fully adjustable allowing you to move forward, recline, or lower or higher.  The rear seats fold down to allow for a large trunk area for packages and even tailgating!  We attended a Blues and BBQ event in Columbus and as you can see below, my 16 year old son could lay down and tailgate easily!

Our model was a 4 cylinder that had great pick-up with with the SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY for its engine, transmission, body and chassis.  With 33 HW MPG and a sport mode, the handling of this crossover was great!   It was a smooth and quiet ride that allows the driver to control the extras while driving.  With an easy to read dash with a variety of high tech tools, I was able to do many things just from my steering wheel such as answer and make phone calls, lower or raise the volume, and even change the radio stations.  My favorite feature was the voice command that allowed me to call my family as we were out and about.

The climate controls and air conditioning were easy to navigate and allowed the passengers flexibility in choosing what works for them including seat warming functions in the front. The two front seats could be warmed individually during the winter as well.

The Mazda CX-5 has a great navigation system with a seven inch full color touchscreen display that was easy to read and featured many cool options.  We enjoyed many of these options beginning with the speed limit indicator.  This was one of our favorites as it let us know what the speed limit was on each road.   It changes as your speed exceeds the limit.   Another option we enjoyed was the actual navigation.  We have been using my iPhone to navigate from place to place.  Words can’t even begin to explain how much I appreciated having the directions clear and easy to see on the touchscreen screen.   The navigation was also helpful in providing nearby places as we visited Columbus, Georgia for the weekend when we had the vehicle.

Another great feature in this car was the Bose speaker system.  As a music lover, I know the quality of Bose products and the sound quality of this sound system did not disappoint.  We were able to sync our iPhones to the vehicle and enjoy everything that we had downloaded.  There were other options available as well including  AM, FM,  and Sirius XM.

As if it could not get any better, it did!  The rear camera feature was really superior to any I have tried before. The image and resolution was clear and proved to be very useful when traveling through Pine Mountain, Georgia.  I could clearly see what was behind us as we backed out of the BUSY state and national parks nearby.   The LED headlights were absolutely incredible as well!  As I had stated earlier, we drove to Pine Mountain and Columbus, Georgia for the weekend when we drove test drove this car.  Winding mountain roads are dark and often hard to navigate through and having a vehicle that properly illuminates the road is necessary.  With an adaptive front lighting system, I had no trouble seeing the roads at night because the lights turned with me as I rounded the winding roads of the Pine Mountain.

Another one of our favorites in the Mazda CX-5 was the commander switch seen in the photo above.   These buttons and knobs allows you to control many of the features on the touchscreen such as the radio, phone, and navigation systems.  Just like a mouse, the knob spins to highlight various functions.  This allows you to have great control of your vehicle while driving.

One last thing I would love to say about this company before I close out this blog post.  When I was given this vehicle to test drive, I was also given a $25 gift card to give to a charity of my choice. from Mazda.  Now I do not know about you but I love a company that supports giving back!  It makes me happy to know that the Mazda 6 we invested in is from a company that knows the importance of giving back.   Now that is somewhere you will want to buy a car from!   The Mazda CX-5 is a family approved, well built vehicle.  If you are in the market for a 5 person car, you really need to test drive the  Mazda CX-5.  You should not be disappointed!

This is such a gorgeous car! I drive a Mazda 3 right now and am looking to upgrade to this model now that I’ve had my daughter. I love how Mazdas have that get up and go! Plus, we have never had to do an expensive repair to our Mazda- and it’s been on the road for a while. Love the interior of this one!
