My family loves to go to theme parks, and Dollywood is one of our favorite places to do!  This coming year, thrill enthusiasts are in for a real treat as Dollywood is giving coaster fans a chance to jump aboard Lightning Rod, its newest record-breaking offering, before the final pieces of track are even in place!  That POV video was amazing!  I could nearly feel the drops and twists and turns.  As a matter of fact, I think that girl screaming you heard was me!  I am so ready to ride this coaster!

Thanks to Los Angeles-based 3D Live, anyone with a smartphone can stream via YouTube 360 optimized, point-of-view footage of Dollywood’s Lightning Rod and take a virtual ride on the world’s fastest wooden coaster. The pioneering 3D technology is new to the amusement park industry, and something 3D Live CEO Nathan Huber says will revolutionize the way guests visit a theme park.

“This year has been crazy for us,” Huber explained. “We’re doing a bunch of great new stuff, and we said ‘let’s jump in to this world (theme parks).’ This is something fun and we see a huge future of bringing people virtually to theme parks.

“Imagine hospital patients that may never be able to go to a theme park. Now, this is at least the first step in bringing that experience to them. There is something about creating these immersive experiences; you can take something that would be difficult for them to experience and make it accessible. Now they can sit in their living room, put on a VR headset and be inside the park for a minute.”

The opportunity to work with Dollywood and its innovative new coaster was something Huber said was the perfect fit for his company’s ground-breaking technology.

“It is an honor,” Huber said. “I spent so much time in Tennessee (Huber graduated from Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, Tennessee) that it is an honor to be working with Dollywood. We love the opportunity to be able to explore and find ways to deliver information to people. We’re excited to continue pushing boundaries.”

Due to working on the footage for Dollywood, Huber already has been able to make several circuits of Lightning Rod—albeit virtually. When asked about his thoughts on the thrilling new ride, Huber was quick to respond.

“It is scary,” he said with a laugh. “I like scary rides. It looks like it is going to be a ride to freak me out when I get a chance to come to Tennessee to ride it, which is going to be as soon as possible. Watching this ride, I’m just like, ‘wow!’”

Lightning Rod is the newest member of The Dollywood Company’s collection of award-winning attractions. In March 2012, Dollywood opened the $20 million Wild Eagle, the country’s first wing coaster. The company introduced RiverRush, Tennessee’s first and only water coaster, at Dollywood’s Splash Country in 2013. FireChaser Express, the nation’s first dual-launch family coaster, was added at Dollywood in 2014. Dollywood mainstays Thunderhead, consistently among the world’s top five wood coasters, Mystery Mine, Blazing Fury and Tennessee Tornado round out the park’s list of innovative coasters.

Chris Tomlin’s new Christmas album was released on October 23, 2015.  It features classic Christmas songs with a mix of original Christmas songs.  There are special guest performances from Lauren Daigle, All Sons & Daughters, Crowder, and more on this album.

Bringing Haiti to your holiday table or gifting plan

Our world seems to be suffering at times, well, most of the time really.  If you turn on the news you are slapped with a dose of reality that quickly makes you realize that the problems you might be facing are relatively small in comparison to others.  With the recent attacks in Paris to the ones that happen in your own community, many of you may be wondering how do I respond.  How do I give back? What can one person do?

Recovering from the devastation’s of this world takes time.  It takes time, energy, and resources for a community or country to put the pieces back together.  Remember back in January of 2010 when a devastating earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 struck Haiti, killing more than 160,000 and displacing close to 1.5 million people.   Those in the Port-au-Prince or visiting are reminded as they walk around their capital there that is still so much to do.  But don’t let that mark their fate.  No!  The people of Haiti are coming together and in recent years there has been a movement to continue to help these people through a unique way…gifts that give back!

As we begin preparations for the holiday season that is rapidly approaching I want to challenge you to buy gifts that actually give back.  As many of you probably are aware of, there are many companies that are now giving a portion of their sales of an item back to areas in our world that need them.  Whether it is a pair of shoes or clean drinking water, there is a movement in our world today that screams “we want to do more!”  As you decide what to get this year, make your first stop at Macy’s for gift giving ideas.  Macy’s sells unique hand made home décor items from artisans in Haiti.  Macy’s Heart of Haiti has been in support of the Haitian artisans ever since the devastating earthquake hit this economically fragile nation over five years ago.  Shortly after the earthquake, Macy’s began carrying this product line featuring an array of beautiful handmade goods crafted by artisans in Haiti. The country of Haiti, rich in the arts, has skilled artisans that make products that are unique and stand out.  Haiti has an estimated 400,000 artisans (out of a 10M population) who rely solely on their handcrafted goods as a source of income. No other sector of employment even approaches such numbers. While other organizations have come and gone, Macy’s has remained in Haiti since shortly after the earthquake, deepening their commitment to this Trade not Aid initiative.

Macy’s Heart of Haiti

Presently the Macy’s Heart of Haiti line is only available at a few select Macy’s stores listed here: Herald Square, Downtown Brooklyn, Downtown DC’s Metro Center, Chicago’s State Street, San Francisco’s Union Park, Downtown Seattle, Dallas Gallaria, Downtown Portland (Ore), Atlanta’s Lenox Square, Dallas Galleria Mall, Miami Dadeland.

Recently I was sent this beautiful and stunning Heart of Haiti metal bowl made by Haitian artists.  After much thought on how I was going to incorporate this into our dinner this week, it dawned on me that the beautiful bowl itself would be our center piece.  When I think back to the meaning of Thanksgiving, I am reminded that this is a time to give thanks.  I want to start a new tradition in my family since this will be the first year that we are all together again and in our home.  Inside of the Heart of Haiti metal bowl I placed an assortment of memories from this year.  Some are from our family while others are from events that have touched us in the world.  My one question after each is how can I make a difference.

My hope is that we can talk about making a difference in people’s lives by doing the simplest of things each day.  Whether it be leaving compliment cards around town as we shop, buying products that are specifically designed to give back, or paying it forward at the drive thru,  I want my family to be aware  of what it is we are giving thanks for each year and to give back.

Leaving a legacy for my family and teach them the importance of giving rather than receiving.  After all my family has been blessed beyond measure in the area of receiving!  Do I think they know what it means to give back–yes!  I have taught my kids that it is better to give than receive and I am happy to say that they have done well with this.  What I feel I have failed at is that I have not really lived that out!  I need to be more of the giver and less of the “teacher.”  I have spent my time teaching them what it means in words but not so much in action!  So my resolution this year is to simply GIVE!

PC Gaming Trove

We are a family of gamers.  We have every device and a state of the art computer that allows for gaming.  You can bet if it is a game that involves role plying of any sort, we have tried it.   One of my kids newest favorites (and adults too) is Trove!

Do you seek adventure and exploration?  Are you a gamer?  Trove is a voxel-based adventure MMORPG from Trion.  Similar to Minecraft, gamers can break down the world into resources and reuse these resources to build not only their own worlds and homes, but to craft gear. Quests send players into worlds that disappear or renew as time goes on. Players can easily swap classes and abilities to adapt to ever-changing worlds.

Trove is  a free, massive-multiplayer online role playing Minecraft style game in which you get to build and do whatever you want in the open world sandbox.  Full of brightly colored voxels, players collect blocks and other resources to build and design new things such as buildings, furniture, and other things.

My son played this game for hours and hours.  He really enjoyed the graphics and the variety of characters available.  His favorite was the Gunslinger.  Gunslinger is armed with six-shooters.  He is able to shoot down any competition that comes his way.  He has an ability to charge up a shot that builds up more damage.  Walking around capturing dungeons and constructing houses made my son’s game time enjoyable.   He especially loved that there were a variety of weapons available throughout the world.

Trovedeveloped by Trion Worlds, also had some other cool features that we enjoyed as well.  In Trove your character can live across created worlds. In each world your character has it’s own set of new goals or objectives.  You will also encounter monsters.  One of the things my son liked was that the things he created showed up in other areas of the map.  Things you might have created in one world could show up in the next. You keep belongings in your own Cornerstone and that follows you from world to world.

Trove Key Features:

An Infinite Sandbox

Multiple Classes to Level

Dungeons to Explore

Mobile Homes

Community Created Content

Gamers can explore and create in Trove, the acclaimed voxel RPG set in a massive universe of online worlds. Whether hunting treasure in far-off lands or building realms of your own, it’s never been this good to be square!

Disclosure (in accordance with the FTC’s 16 CFR, Part 255: “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising”): Many thanks to Trove and Blog Meets Brand for the opportunity to review Trove.  Opinions are 100% my own.”

The home of Coke launches its holiday celebration with lights, signature holiday drinks, photo opps, one-of-a-kind gifts, letters from the Coca‑Cola Polar Bear and so much more.  “The World of Coca‑Cola has become a favorite holiday destination for fans around the world,” said General Manager of Retail and Attractions for the World of Coca‑Cola Russell Jacobs. “Coca‑Cola has always been a special part of Christmas, and we look forward to surprising and delighting our holiday guests with memorable Coca‑Cola moments.”

Trees lit with thousands of lights, giant decorative ornaments and a new contour bottle topiary set the scene outside the World of Coca‑Cola at Pemberton Place, where guests can take and share photos galore.

Visitors are welcomed inside with “happy holidays” in languages from all over the world. Larger-than-life seasonal Coca‑Cola bottles mingle with red ornament trees, and holiday tunes make spirits bright. A special exhibit, “Coca‑Cola Christmas around the World,” displays historic, holiday-themed Coca‑Cola artifacts. “History of the Coca‑Cola Santa” gives guests an inside look at the evolution of the famous St. Nicholas that Coca‑Cola originally commissioned Haddon Sundblom to illustrate in the 1930s.

Spread cheer this season by sending friends and family an invitation to the World of Coca‑Cola directly from the desk of the Coca‑Cola Polar Bear. Beginning today, fans can submit their requests for personalized letters on the World of Coca‑Cola website. Holiday happiness delivered!

Not only is the Coca‑Cola Polar Bear writing letters this holiday season – he’s also posing for photos. Guests can join the friendly 7-foot-tall bear in front of an arctic backdrop custom-made for bear hugs, high fives and other share-worthy moments. We couldn’t leave Santa out of the photo fun. Step inside a classic Sundblom Santa painting by hopping aboard a big, red sleigh in front of a backdrop featuring St. Nick himself.
