Discover DaVinci and Michelangelo Side by Side Exhibition

Main Image Davinci

On loan from the Museum of Leonardo DaVinci in Florence , Italy , The DaVinci Machines and Michelangelo Side by Side Exhibition illustrates the startling genius of the two Renaissance masterminds.  On display are DaVinci and Michelangelo’s most important inventions, paintings, original cast sculptures created directly from the Master’s works by the National Academy of Cast Making in Florence. The intention of the Exhibition is to provide visitors with an unparalleled experience by immersing the viewer into the lives of two of the world greatest artists that ever lived.

Pieta ATL (1)

The DaVinci Exhibition contains over 60 hand-crafted inventions built from Leonardo’s 500 year old designs and is the life work of three generations of Florentine artisans, who have painstakingly brought to life the creations by the brilliant scientist, inventor and artist Leonardo DaVinci. With over 60 machines on display, many of which are interactive, the collection features replicas of the major and most striking inventions of the original Renaissance Man. The main features on display include the “bicycle”, “spring powered car”, “hang glider” and the “air screw”, a precursor to the helicopter and for the first time ever, the secrets behind Leonardo’s legendary robotic lion.  This exhibition presents over 60 models grouped in themes: War machines, Flying machines, Nautical & Hydraulic machines, as well as devices illustrating the Principles of Mechanics. The interactive machines are a popular aspect of each exhibition as visitors can touch and handle these models to gain a first-hand appreciation of how they work. Explanatory notes and illustrative panels with Leonardo’s drawings accompany each model.

Side by Side are Michelangelo’s sculptures, paintings and architecture.  All of Michelangelo’s sculptures are actual, full size casts from the National Academy of Cast Making in Florence, Italy,  Notable casts statues include the life size head of David, as well as the Pieta, whose depiction of Mary holding Jesus’ body grips the viewer with maternal grief. Elsewhere, visitors get up close to examine the details in his famed Sistine Chapel frescos. High-quality reproductions let guests gaze at The Creation of Adam in the sort of detail known only to professional restorers.

DaVinci’s Masterpieces on display are his licensed reproductions masterpieces framed to the exact size of the original artwork.

Backstage Tours at the Chick-fil-A Home Office

If you grew up near Atlanta, then you are probably well aware of who Truett Cathy is.  As a native of Atlanta, I grew up eating Chick-fil-A and Truett Cathy was a household name.

Truett Cathy, born before the Great Depression, became an entrepreneur at the early age of 8 by selling Coke to his neighbors.

Truett and his brother Ben began their first restaurant, the Dwarf Grill, in Hapeville, Georgia back in 1946. Originally selling beef (I know the cows are gasping), Truett did not begin selling his famous Chick-fil-A sandwich until the 1960s.  Over the years Truett has grown his family owned, now debt free business, into a multi billion dollar company.  With a variety of restaurants and foundations, Truett Cathy has left a remarkable legacy behind for others to learn from.

“Nearly every moment of every day we have the opportunity to give something to someone else—our time, our love, our resources. I have always found more joy in giving when I did not expect anything in return.”

– Quote from “Eat Mor Chikin: Inspire More People” by S. Truett Cathy, published 2002.

Today I had the pleasure of touring Chick-fil-A headquarters in Atlanta with fellow bloggers and members of the Chick-fil-A Mom’s Club.  Nestled in an 80-acre wooded campus full of beautiful landscaping and trails, is the Chick-fil-A home office.  Rated the highest ranking fast food restaurant in the U.S. for customer satisfaction according to the American Customer Satisfaction Index Restaurant Report of 2015, I was eager to find out more about this innovative and faith based company.  Our tour was different from the traditional “Backstage Tour” offered to families; however, as a mother that has taken her children on the traditional one, it is well worth the visit.

Reservations are required for tours.

With two options available, you are sure to find the one that best meets your families needs.

Option 1:  Regular Tour

Whet your appetite with a tasting of this cultural tour! Learn the history of the Chick-fil-A founder, Truett Cathy, and the core values of the company with a visit to the History Museum.  This tour is FREE and lasts about an hour.

Option 2:  The Deluxe Tour

Hungry for more? Experience Truett Cathy’s office, and take a quick shuttle ride to see new product development in “The Kitchen” and visit the “Hatch” innovation center.  This tour costs $15 per person (plus tax) and lasts two hours.

Truett Cathy loved cars! Inside the corporate offices you will find a collection of some of his prized possessions. One of these is this Bat Mobile. This Bat Mobile was one of three that was used in Batman Returns with Michael Keaton.

Today we were treated to the Deluxe Tour.  Tours begin in the Backstage room.  Here you are introduced to Chick-fil-A and learn about some pretty cool statistics.

Did you know that last year they used 200 million lemons for their lemonade?

Did you know that the Cows, the ones we have come to love, have been around for 20 years?

Did you know that Chick-fil-A has sold over 3 BILLION chicken sandwiches?

We also learned about the 3 BIG values that Truett and his company believe in that lead to success in life, work, and school.

Make smart decisions

Maximize your potential

Treat others right

We also get to see a creative movie highlighting this principles.  Can you guess the name?  No?

Night at the Mooseum

I just love that title.  Such a great play on their cow theme!

15 - 34

My group began our tour at The Hatch. The Hatch is the known as the innovation center.  Here corporate employees and partners work to understand problems and needs as well as imagine new ideas.  They create prototypes and validate their ideas.  Here it is understood that it is okay to break things.  Not necessarily in the literal sense, but rather, it is okay here to make mistakes.  Mistakes need to be made at The Hatch, rather than in the restaurants.  Here, ideas come together!

One of my favorite parts of our tour was visiting The Kitchen. The Kitchen is the heart of the company!  Here chefs, dietitians, food scientists, etc.. gather to create and reinvent.  Today we had the AWESOME opportunity to sample a few things!  While I can’t tell you about two of them (just know you are going to love them), I can tell you about the Yogurt Parfait we got to sample.  If you visit Chick-fil-A in the morning you know that they offer a variety of items.  One of those is their Yogurt Parfait.  This week they made their Yogurt Parfaits even better!  Now they are made with GREEK YOGURT!  Did you know that?  I am looking forward to getting these more often!

The tour ended back at the home office.  Here we got to visit the museum featuring many items that showcase how Chick-fil-A has developed and changed over time.

15 - 15

Pictured above is Truett’s office.  In front of his desk you can see a replica of the cart used to sell those Cokes I mentioned earlier.  The Treehouse, as you can see from the window, is located on the top floor of the home office among the tops of the trees.

15 - 18

15 - 7

The tour ends on the bottom floor of the home office where guests can view some of his car collection.  Guests are also given a complimentary photo to commemorate their experience at Chick-fil-A.

15 - 1 (3)

As I left the building today, I stopped by the front to take a picture.  I was always amazed with Chick-fil-A, but this made me love them even more–if that is honestly possible!

15 - 2 (2)

If you are ever in the Atlanta area, you have to check this out!

Many images are personal images taken by me.  Some of the images were from the Chick-fil-A website.

Heading Back to School with Name Bubbles

Thursday I head back to school to prepare my classroom and heart for another group of wonderful 5th graders.  I am blessed that I truly enjoy my job!  My heart is always so full of joy to be able to experience life with a new group of students.

For many parents, hearing that it is time for back to school is good news!  Having to keep your kids busy throughout the summer can be exhausting.  As a mother, I also look forward to getting back into a routine. The lazy days of summer are great, but there comes a time to put away the beach things and prepare for Back to School!

Adjusting to a new schedule can be quite the challenge.  To make it easier I would suggest that you go ahead and be proactive.  Begin by moving bedtime to an earlier time.   Allowing your child to get into the habit of settling in earlier will be important.  It is also helpful to have discussions about the new school year.  Talk to your child about expectations such as homework, bathing, bedtime, etc.  It is also important to is also to speak positive about school.

As a teacher, you know I have to love all things related to organization and Name Bubbles offers a wide variety of name/medical alert labels for anyone’s needs.  They have even earned several awards, including the 2014 Creative Child Award Winner and the 2014 Mom’s Choice Award Gold Medal Winner.

I was happy to be given the opportunity to select some of their personalized labels for my personal use.  Their website was easy to use with the “Start Here” program that helps guide you through the customization process.  With a variety of styles, fonts, and colors, you are sure to find something that appeals to your style. As you can see pictured above, I went with a cute nautical theme.

Since receiving my labels, I have to say that I have been very impressed!  I love that the company put my labels in a small folder.  This was easy for me to store and access.  I also LOVE that these labels are versatile.  I have placed them on a variety of items including books, shoes, bags, and lunchboxes.

“Choose from Dishwasher Safe Labels, Iron-On Labels, Write-On Labels, or Variety Packs to suit any of your labeling needs. Choose from several fun, removable and reusable Wall Decals to add pizzazz to your child’s nursery, bedroom, playroom, or any room of the house. Wanting a way to personalize bags, luggage, backpacks and lunch boxes?  Our Bag Tags are the perfect personalized and stylish option! Last but not least, join Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the rest of the Peanuts gang by selecting any of our Peanuts Products.  And be sure to snag some before the launch of the new Peanuts movie!”

Another great thing to love about Name Bubbles is that they give back.  Back in 2009 they began a program called Labeled for Good.  This programs is a way for them to “give back, raise awareness, and make children’s lives better all around.”  Knowing that I am buying from a company that gives back makes this company even more lovable!

Check out Name Bubbles for all your label needs!  You will not be disappointed!

Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort™ Welcomes First Guests Today

The Dollywood Company’s most anticipated project to date, Dollywood’s DreamMore ResortTM, opens its doors Monday, July 27, creating a new chapter in the famed company’s 30-year history.

Fittingly, Dolly Parton’s dream of adding a resort to the fun and excitement of her Smoky Mountain theme park offerings comes true during Dollywood’s 30th anniversary season.

“Seeing DreamMore Resort open really is a dream come true for me,” Parton said. “It brings me back to when my whole family would get together on the front porch catching up and swapping stories. I want families to spend the day experiencing the fun of our parks, then come to this beautiful resort to spend time together making even more family memories!”

“Everyone at The Dollywood Company has greatly anticipated our opening day since this project was announced in August 2013,” said Kevin Osborn, Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort’s general manager. “Countless people have put so much heart and effort in to this beautiful resort; to see it standing and ready to welcome visitors fills us all with an amazing feeling of accomplishment. We’re ready to help our guests make family memories they’ll share for a lifetime.”

Thanks to unique Dollywood park privileges—including free transportation to both Dollywood and Dollywood’s Splash Country, front-of-the-line access at Dollywood with a free TimeSaver pass for each guest, early Saturday entrance for guests at Dollywood, and much more—Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort is the ideal location for guests seeking a fun-filled Smoky Mountains vacation destination.

The spectacular guest arrival experience includes an impressive fountain inspired by Parton’s Dream More book and a stately porte-cochère that offers a hint of the beauty visitors find inside. Upon entering the magnificent lobby, guests are welcomed with an unparalleled view of the Great Smoky Mountains through the resort’s extraordinary three-story-tall picture windows.   My family loves to listen to Ravi Zacharias.  He is such a profound speaker who is devoted to bringing the truth of the Gospel to all.  As an apologetic, Ravi and many others devote their lives to helping people know, without a doubt, that what is in the Bible is true and defending it.
A few months ago our church hosted an Apologetics conference and much to my delight, my youngest son signed us up to volunteer.  Nothing makes me happier than seeing my family delight in being a part of what God has in store for us.  Today we got our new, Apologetics Study Bible for Students, in the mail.  It makes my heart so happy to see that my baby boy is thrilled with his new bible.
In preparation for the new bible we were eagerly awaiting to come in the mail, my son took some time to watch some of the videos associated with this new bible. offers free Bible Studies, videos and a weekly newsletter that will send 52 weeks of Apologetic content!  Beginning with the first video, Is it okay to have doubts, my son chose to delve right in.  As a believer and parent, I am thankful for this video series.  Nearly every one of us have had doubts about things in the bible, and after talking to my son after watching the first video I realzied he too has questions.  As said in the video, having doubts should be seen as a good thing!  Why?  Because it shows that you are committed to and seeking the truth rather than just abandoning.  When you seek to find the truth, you will be led back to Jesus.   As a parent of older children, I know and have experienced in my own life what happens when you go to college or begin to take that plunge into discovering your own identity.  You are exposed to the ways of the world and many different ideologies.  Those can lead to you questioning what you were brought up believing.
As a parent, I sought to ground my children as much as I could in the Word and Truth because I wanted to prepare them for the attacks on their faith.   One thing that was missing was the answers to the serious questions doubters ask or those that do not believe question.  I never really equipped them to understand and be able to really defend their faith until I discovered the Apologetics.
You might be asking yourself, what is an apologetic?  From, “Apologetics may be simply defined as the defense of the Christian faith.”  Preparing my child and helping him to really grasp that what we believe in is truth, regardless of what others may say, is hard.  Having something like the Apologetics for Students really helps.
