Tales of Spook EBook Review

It should come as no surprise to many that I love reading!  After all, I am a reading teacher!  One lesson that I teach form the very beginning is to NEVER judge a book by it’s cover!

I had the opportunity to read a chapter book entitled Tales of Spook. Appropriate for ages 9-12 (grades 4 to 7), this book holds the interest of the reader and leaves them guessing as to what will happen next!  Although it may look like a book for younger children, it is definitely not!  This book contains humor and horror!   The story line is intersting and will captivate the reader if they are into this genre.  More importantly, the book teaches students about life.  It teaches that not all things come to a happy ending!

Then, he meets an ugly, purple monster named Spook living in the basement and his world is forever changed. Spook’s life … not so great. But he is armed with a plan and the determination to change his life.  Noel has a best friend named Stacy, a plan and one day to stop Spook.  The question is, do Noel and Stacy have determination?  If they fail, someone will spend a lifetime living in the shadows drinking hot tea and eating dryer lint.

About the Author

I write Lady Jenniviere’s Quill to make a difference in how children read. I want my books to offer important messages, to invite imagination, to show a different view point, but most importantly to teach children that life isn’t always wrapped up in a neatly packaged happy ending. Sometimes the hero wins, sometime they fail and sometimes the monster turns out to be the hero. Life isn’t black and white. My books are written to illustrate the beauty of the gray parts.

In TALES OF SPOOK, I wanted the reader to consider what makes a monster. Is it the outward appearance. Is it the result of choices made? Is it just the luck of the draw? Is there nothing that will change a person’s life path?

Why do bad things happen to seemingly good people?
