I enjoy reading self help books so when the opportunity came along for me to review Enough: 10 Things We Should Be Telling Teenage Girls by Kate Connor I knew I wanted in! As a mom and teacher I needed to read what this book was about to better help me reach a generation of preteens/teenagers.
I grew up back in the 70’s and 80’s. Although there are many similarities between my childhood and the childhood of my own today, there are also many differences! Perhpas I feel this way simply because I am more in touch with my children and know what I want out of life for them. Maybe my mom was similar to me and wondered to herself, “What is wrong with today’s youth?” back in the day.
In her book Kate Conner highlights ten truths that ALL girls need to listen to! Some of those include:
Clothing Attracts Certain Kinds of Boys
Peppered with wit and laced with grace, Kate’s list tackles relevant issues like Facebook, emotions, drama, tanning beds, modesty, and flirtation. Woven into each chapter is a powerful message of worth that transcends age, and will touch the souls of women, young and old alike: You are beautiful. You are valuable. You are enough.
A former youth-worker, wife to a college minister, and a young mom in her twenties, Conner stands squarely in generational gap, the perfect place from which to bridge it. Conner offers herself as a translator, helping you to speak your teenager’s language and equipping you with a fresh perspective from which to engage your teenage girl—one that may enable her to truly hear your heart (and your wisdom) for the first time since puberty.
